So, we're only here for a little while (geologically/astronomically speaking), so we need to make the most of our time. Well, there are plenty of shortcuts, but I've determined I don't want to drive if I can avoid it. Luckily, living in the city, I'm only a few blocks from buses. Here are some of my common routes. When I head straight to campus, I take the 1L south to UT's West Mall, then take the PRC shuttle up to MCC and walk the 2/3 mile to the office. When I head straight to work, I try to catch the 240 north along Parkfield, then the 392 west down Braker. it's a 50 minute commute by the time I walk down Cripple Creek to catch the first bus, then wait 5-10 minutes for the second, then walk the final 2/3 mile down Braker. But it's a refreshing route. Not scenic, but introspective. Heck, maybe it's the only time I get to really plum the depths of my brain. Maybe I'm scraping too hard at the bottom of the barrel. Who knows! But I do have to recommend going carless for a period of time. Even in teh 100 degree Austin summer, I've found it refreshing, if not enlightening. And by golly, support your local areas attempts at improving public transit!
